The launch of the Diaka Camara Foundation took place on 23 December 2016 at the Blue Zone of Kaloum in Conakry the capital of Guinea. The foundation rewarded 100 students in the commune of Kaloum. We chose 25 of the best from the middle grade school of the deaf and mute of the school of Boulinet, 50 of the college of Boulbinet and 25 of the 2 October High School. All 100 were given backpacks filled with school supplies. Each backpack contained: 3 notebooks, pens, pencils, coloring pencils, a paint box for the middle graders, math kits, a folder with sheets, a dictionary, erasers, pencil sharpeners, markers, and tool kits. In addition the 25 middle graders, they all received Christmas gifts that our partner the Prima Center provided us. The girls from the middle school received in addition a pair of shoes that was donated by the children’s shop the Mini Nomes. Since our goal is to promote excellence in the school system we took it an extra notch and rewarded the best of the best meaning the first of each class from the 7th to the 13th, received an extra gift. An Alcatel Tablet was given to the first of the 7TH and 8th graders. The first of the 9TH and 10TH graders each received a Smartphone. As for the first of the 11TH,12TH (2 were tied ) and 13TH graders, all received a brand new laptop and also benefited from an internship to the company of their choosing which was offered by the recruitment company Trust Africa. Our main goal is to promote education and excellence because we remain convinced that socio-economical development could only be achieved through education. The ultimate goal of the foundation is to raise the literacy rate and to contribute to the creation of an elite of excellence in Guinean education.
